Tummy Tuck Surgery in Philadelphia

(Abdominoplasty)

Abdominoplasty, commonly known as a Tummy Tuck, is a procedure focusing on the abdominal area in which Dr. Bottger removes excess folds of skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen and tightens the abdominal muscles to create a lean, flat, and more well-defined abdomen. The best candidates for an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) are men and women who are in good physical condition but have excess fat, loose skin, or loose muscles (commonly seen after pregnancy) in the abdominal area that won't respond to exercise or diet. Dr. Bottger specializes in body sculpting procedures including abdominoplasty, and will work with your specific goals to determine the best procedure for you.

There are two types of abdominoplasty:

  1. Mini-abdominoplasty tightens predominantly the lower abdominal wall and skin only, affecting the area below the navel.
  2. Standard abdominoplasty or full tummy tuck, tightens all of the abdominal wall skin, and muscle smoothing the entire abdominal area.

If your abdominal fullness is confined predominantly to the area below the belly button and skin excess is minimal, you may be a candidate for a Mini-abdominoplasty, which has a shorter incision and limits the tightening to the lower abdomen. However, if the fullness and skin laxity are more extensive and involve your entire abdomen, then you would likely need a full abdominoplasty to get the best result. The typical incision is placed low – just above the pubic hairline – and is extended with a gentle curve to the region of the hipbones. A small incision is also made around the belly button to free it from the surrounding skin for final positioning.

Full abdominoplasty usually takes two to three hours, depending on the extent of work required. Partial abdominoplasty may take an hour or two. A Tummy Tuck is usually performed under general anesthesia.
