Brachioplasty, or arm lift, is a procedure which tightens and contours the upper arm region. This procedure is reserved for patients with a large amount of skin laxity, creating a sagging appearance of the upper arm. When fat excess is present and skin tone is good, liposuction alone may be effective. When skin tone is poor, however, liposuction alone is not effective and may actually result in a worsening appearance by increasing laxity and looseness. The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia on an out patient basis. The resultant scar typically extends from the axillary region to the elbow on the inside of the arm. Although the scar quality can in many cases be less than optimal, arm contour can be dramatically improved.
